Krishna on the Battle Field

If you have completed the Introduction to the Bhagavad Gita Seminar and wish to deepen your understanding of this ancient text, or if you already possess a certain understanding of general Yogic principles and are interested in learning about the Bhagavad Gita, the ‘Krishna on the Battle Field’ course is perfect for you.

In this 3-part online series, Swami Chidananda will guide you through the core teachings of the Bhagavad Gita with a focus on their application to your yoga practice and daily life.

Building upon the foundations laid in the introductory seminar, you will explore the principles of karma and dharma, the qualities of the atma, techniques for focusing the mind, and the metaphors of the warrior and battlefield in greater depth. Additionally, we will discuss the various yoga techniques given by Krishna on the battlefield, including karma yoga, jnana yoga, and bhakti yoga, which can be applied to our lives.

This course is designed to be taken as a whole, so please plan to attend all three sessions. It is suitable for both beginner and experienced meditators and yoga practitioners.

Don't miss this opportunity to continue your journey with the Bhagavad Gita and discover how its teachings can transform your life.

Here is what each session will focus on:

Session 1: The Confusion of the Mind

In the first session we explore the inner turmoil and confusion experienced by Arjuna, a warrior prince who is about to engage in a great battle. Arjuna is filled with doubt and uncertainty, questioning the purpose and morality of the violence he is about to unleash upon his enemies.

The confusion of Arjuna is a metaphor for the struggles of the human mind. Arjuna's inner conflict represents the battle between our higher selves and our lower selves, between our sense of duty and our desires, between our understanding of what is right and wrong, and our attachment to the outcomes of our actions.

The story of Arjuna's confusion and the guidance he receives from Krishna is a powerful reminder of the importance of self-awareness and mindfulness in our own lives. By cultivating a clear and focused mind, we can overcome confusion and find the clarity we need to make wise and ethical decisions.

Session 2: The Qualities of the Atma

In the second session, we will explore the teachings of the Gita regarding the atma and its qualities. We will discuss how the atma is described as eternal, unchanging, and indestructible, and how it is distinct from the physical body and mind.

Throughout this session, we will also discuss how the qualities of the atma can be cultivated through spiritual practice. The Gita teaches that by realizing the true nature of the atma, we can overcome the illusions of the material world and attain true peace and happiness.

In addition to exploring the teachings of the Gita, this session will also provide practical tools and techniques for cultivating the qualities of the atma in our own lives.

Session 3: Four Paths of Yoga

In the third session, we will explore the various paths of yoga taught in the Gita and how they can be applied in our own lives.

The Gita describes four primary paths of yoga, each of which is designed to help individuals attain self-realization and liberation from the material world. These paths include Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga, and Dhyana Yoga.

Karma Yoga is the path of selfless action, which emphasizes the importance of performing one's duty without attachment to the results of those actions. Bhakti Yoga is the path of devotion, which involves cultivating a deep and loving relationship with a chosen aspect of the Divine. Jnana Yoga is the path of knowledge, which involves gaining insight into the nature of the self and the universe through the pursuit of wisdom and truth. Dhyana Yoga is the path of meditation, which involves using techniques such as breath control and concentration to quiet the mind and attain inner peace.

Throughout this session, we will delve deeply into the teachings of each of these paths and explore how they can be applied in our daily lives.
