The Power of Pranayama: The Fourth Limb of Yoga with Meera Dhawan

Pranayama, the practice of breath regulation, is a transformative practice for yoga students and teachers. An ancient practice that dates back thousands of years, pranayama is still widely used today to help focus the mind, reduce stress and anxiety, and deepen the depth of our yoga practice. This workshop, led by Yoga Garden instructor Meera Dhawan, will explore the definitions & goals of pranayama, the fundamentals for practice, and classical & preparatory techniques. Teachers will be given guidance on where and how to safely incorporate pranayama into their public and private yoga sessions. In this workshop, you will learn:

·        The relationship between pranayama & asana

·        The 4 Parts of respiration

·        The fundamentals of pranayama (definition, types and prerequisites for practice)

·        The preparatory pranayama practices of Full Yogic Breath and Sama Vritti

·        The stages & practice of Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing)

Expect an invigorating day of pranayama practice and theory. If possible, please do some light physical movement before class and avoid eating a heavy meal 2-3 hours before. Please bring a yoga mat and a notebook or something to write with.
